Adoption
Depending on your experience, having been adopted could be filled with celebration, happiness and joy, coupled with grief, loss, and the daily thought of wondering if your birth parents are searching for you right in this very moment. The adoption itself could have brought about many positive changes in your life as a child, however without loss there would be no adoption. This attachment disruption between you and your birth family can lead to a deep sense of abandonment, rejection, loss, confusion, identity issues, guilt/shame, and issues with control. It can also leave you vulnerable with a strong desire to search for acceptance and a sense of belonging often in unhealthy places. This wound is often the root cause of many issues in your present day life.
Without healing this trauma fuels expectations of further abandonments, relationship issues, and addictions. Begin the work of acknowledging how having been adopted has affected you.
